It's a validated reference architecture built on DRIVE AGX hardware and the safety-certified DriveOS. Adding another layer to this reasoning capability is NVIDIA Alpamayo. These are open Vision-Language-Action models designed to bring contextual reasoning to the vehicle. Instead of just reacting to obstacles, the system aims to understand the scene, making transparent decisions in complex driving scenarios. Halos and the Safety Question

NVIDIA claims to have invested over 15,000 engineering years into AV safety, culminating in a system called Halos. This is a full-stack comprehensive safety system that unifies vehicle architecture, chips, software, and AI models.
Halos is designed to weave safety into every stage of the lifecycle, from cloud to car. By combining proven design principles with advanced agentic functions, it provides chip-to-deployment foundations to safeguard end-to-end autonomous stacks. For a car that runs on a battery, having a combustible battery is a rough start; for a car that drives itself, having a combustible decision-making process is unacceptable. Halos is NVIDIA's attempt to firewall those risks.
The deployment side is handled by NVIDIA NIM, allowing developers to tap into advanced AI models for AV-embedded software and cloud solutions. This is meant to accelerate real-world deployment and improve efficiency once the validation phase is complete.
This ecosystem isn't staying in-house. The NVIDIA DRIVE Partner Ecosystem already includes leading automakers, robotaxi providers, Tier 1 suppliers, and sensor manufacturers. They're all betting on this infrastructure to fast-track safe, AI-defined autonomous vehicles.
