Volvo offered a sneak peek at its upcoming EX60 electric compact crossover in a March 5 video revealing the ES90 electric midsize hatchback.
A partial view of the clay model appears at the 24:55 mark, clearly labeled EX60.
Volvo confirmed plans for the EX60 during its February financial results announcement. The crossover debuts in 2026 as the first model on the next-generation SPA3 dedicated EV platform, with prototype testing already underway.
Volvo's current SPA2 platform launched last year in the EX90, later spawning the ES90 and Polestar 3 midsize SUV.
The original SPA platform debuted a decade ago with the XC90 for gas and plug-in hybrid powertrains. SPA3 builds upon SPA2, sharing the same software and hardware modules—called the Volvo Cars Superset tech stack—while improving scalability to accommodate vehicles from subcompact to full-size.

A key SPA3 advancement is mega casting, replacing multiple body structure components with a single cast piece to reduce weight and boost manufacturing efficiency. Volvo announced in 2022 that its Torslanda plant in Sweden—currently producing the XC60—will manufacture SPA3-based vehicles.
Updated Volvo XC60
Despite the EX60's arrival, Volvo continues selling the XC60, which received a February refresh with minor exterior tweaks and new cabin tech including the latest infotainment system.
More of Volvo's gas and plug-in hybrid vehicles will remain available. The automaker announced last fall it's abandoning its plan to sell only EVs by 2030, expecting to continue offering gas and plug-in hybrid vehicles beyond that date.
